Transverse Oscillations of the M87 Jet Revealed by KaVA Observations

چکیده

Recent VLBI monitoring has found transverse motions of the M87 jet. However, due to limited cadence previous observations, details motion have not been fully revealed yet. We regularly monitored jet at KVN and VERA Array (KaVA) 22 GHz from December 2013 June 2016. The average time interval observation is ∼0.1 year, which suitable for tracking short-term structural changes. From these well represented by double ridge lines in region 2–12 mas core. that exhibit oscillations all observed regions with an period 0.94±0.12 years. When sinusoidal fit performed, we amplitude this oscillation order mas, northern southern limbs are almost phase. Considering amplitude, it does originate Earth’s parallax. propose possible scenarios oscillation, such as propagation instabilities or magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) waves perturbed mass injection around magnetically dominated accretion flows.

Ultraviolet Hst Observations of the Jet in M87

We present new ultraviolet photometry of the jet in M87 obtained from HST WFPC2 imaging. We combine these ultraviolet data with previously published photometry for the knots of the jet in radio, optical, and X-ray, and fit three theoretical synchrotron models to the full data set. The synchrotron models consistently overpredict the flux in the ultraviolet when fit over the entire dataset. We sh...

The M87 Jet

We investigate the structure and dynamics of the M87 jet based on multi-frequency VLBI observations and MHD jet theories. Millimeter VLBI cores are considered as innermost jet emissions. The jet structure up to ∼ 105 rs is described as a parabolic streamline, indicating the lateral expansion under a confinement by the stratified ISM. Thus, the jet collimation maintains in five orders of magnitu...

The M87 Jet - J.A. Biretta

We review the current observational status of the M87 jet at radio, optical, and X-ray frequencies. Special attention is paid to the radio morphology, the radio-to-X-ray spectrum, measurement of proper motions, and optical evidence for a counter-jet. The problem of jet confinement is discussed, as well as models for the radio-to-X-ray spectrum and the related problem of particle lifetimes. Fina...

Observations of the Structure and Dynamics of the Inner M87 Jet

M87 is the best source in which to study a jet at high resolution in gravitational units because it has a very high mass black hole and is nearby. The angular size of the black hole is second only to Sgr A*, which does not have a strong jet. The jet structure is edge brightened with a wide opening angle base and a weak counterjet. We have roughly annual observations for 17 years plus intensive ...

The Optical-Near-IR Spectrum of the M87 Jet From HST Observations

We present 1998 HST observations of M87 which yield the first single-epoch optical and radiooptical spectral index image of the jet at 0.15” resolution. We find 〈αro〉 ≈ 0.67, comparable to previous measurements, and 〈αo〉 ≈ 0.9 (Fν ∝ ν), slightly flatter than previous workers. Reasons for this discrepancy are discussed. These observations reveal a large variety of spectral slopes. Bright knots e...
